No Menus Without a Proposal

A Valis Work Rule for decision-making communication.
When asking a colleague (including co-founders) for input on a decision, do not send a list of options for them to choose from.
You may document options, pros and cons, and context, but you must:
  • Propose a solution (what you think we should do).
  • Explain your rationale (why this is the right choice given the requirements).
  • Own the decision (you are accountable for the decision and follow-through).
This rule exists to prevent decision bottlenecks and keep execution moving.
This Work Rule operationalizes the
Single-Owned Areas
principle.
